Osoto-Gaeshi - Ashi Waza / Foot Techniques (g006)

Description
* Summary:
This is a counter Waza used against an Osoto-gari (Large outer reap).

* Features of this Waza:
The Osoto-gaeshi (Large outer reaping throw counter) is used when an attempted Osoto-gari (Large outer reap) has failed to adequately destabilize the defender, who then counters an Osoto-gari (Large outer reap) of his own.

* Waza details:
This counter Waza is executed at the moment when the attacker swings his leg out in preparation for an Osoto-gari (Large outer reap) attack.

It can also be employed when the opponent's Support leg is not sufficiently advanced, making him unstable.
While stiffening the leg that the opponent is targeting, Tori (Player executing technique) steps forward with his Support leg and uses his Tsurite (Lifting hand) to pull Uke (Player receiving opponent's attack) strongly forward.
By bring Uke (Player receiving opponent's attack) body snugly against his own, Tori (Player executing technique) destabilizes Uke (Player receiving opponent's attack) in the backward direction, making his leg easier to reap.

Because Uke (Player receiving opponent's attack) leg is in a "floating" posture at this time, Tori (Player executing technique) reaps it in a sudden motion.

This counter relies on a momentary lapse in Uke (Player receiving opponent's attack) guard.

* Waza usage tip:
The reaped leg swings out behind Uke (Player receiving opponent's attack), and by continuing to swing the leg upward until the bottom of the foot is facing the ceiling, Tori (Player executing technique) can complete the Waza without losing power.

Maintaining a Zanshin (Awareness) state (posture following the attack, in which the attacker remains watchful while reducing the force) at this time, enables Tori (Player executing technique) to continue with another Waza.
